DRAGON NATURALLY SPEAKING

As a pen/paper writer, one of the hardest part of the writing process is transcribing all of my written word into typed text. I’m not the fastest of typist and with my first book it took me a good week to get everything typed. However, Dragon changed all that. It took my second book from the possibility of a week of transcribing to two days of reading. Two days and I had 140 pages, single spaced typed out. Looks like I won’t be going back to the old way.

There are a few quirks to note, keeping in mind I have version 11 and there is a version 12 available that might address these quirks. Regardless, it’s still better than the old way and I’ll take minimal quirks over a long process any day.

 Here are the quirks:
  • Dialogue - dealing with quotation marks is a bit tricky. Sometime Dragon understood what I was asking and other times not. Also, with the left quotation mark, it always mistook it for the right.
  • n’t - A lot of times it made my wouldn't, couldn't, shouldn't into would, could, should.
  • Ands/Buts - Sometimes it would miss the ands and buts or make the and into an “in”

There were other little things, like not understanding that I meant roll instead of role. Still, better than nothing.
